My name is Deborah Meltvedt and I teach the 9th grade Foundations for Success class, Medical Science 10 (Public and Global Health) and Medical Science 12 (Behavioral and Mental Health). I have been a teacher at HPHS since it opened in 2005. I love helping students learn about health and medicine and how they can have a voice in their own health care and in the health care of the community. I am also an advisor to the Creative Writing Club and HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America). Creativity, social justice, and education are important values in my life.
My name is Scott Bruggeman, and this is my third year at Arthur A Benjamin Health Professions High School. I was at Hiram Johnson High School for ten years before coming here, and I was at Rio Americano High School and Elk Grove Charter School before that. Hello I’m Mrs. Bonnie DeBiasio and I teach RSP support both in the GE classroom and small group instruction. and I’ve been a Resource Specialist for the past nine years. I couldn’t be more excited to be starting my second year at HPHS! I love being a part of a school that is so caring of its students and their families.
I graduated from CSU, Chico with a BA in Education and two teaching credentials which include K-6 General Education and K-12 Special Education. I have been married to my husband, Joe for the past nine years and we have two beautiful children ages two and three.
I’ve been a literacy teacher here in Sacramento for 31 years. I’ve taught middle, high and adult language arts and enjoy the relationships built with students at each of those levels. I love helping teenagers find their own way with language through contemporary and challenging reading and writing activities. I especially love watching students get turned on to books when they find just the right story to enjoy. I have always surrounded myself with other educators who care about social justice and anti-racist teaching.
The program is scheduled to officially launch in Fall 2016 in partnership with the FACES for the Future Coalition. The FACES program will provide a multi-year healthcare internship and leadership development program for highly resilient HPHS students. The program will support entry into healthcare professions through internships, workshops, academic support, college preparation and wellness support. Students in 11th Medical Science class will have the opportunity to apply to be part of the program and gain placement in healthcare internships throughout the Sacramento community.
My name is Amber Kadrie and I am one of the counselors at HPHS. I graduated from CSU, Dominguez Hills with my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a minor in Psychology. I have also attended CSU Sacramento for my Master’s degree in Counseling. Not only am I a Counselor here at HPHS but I am also a Counselor at The Met Sacramento High School. Hello my name is Stephanie LeSieur-Byrnes. I have been at HPHS for 13 years. I teach Medical Science 11, Accelerated Education and ASB. The students call me ”Ms.L.” I have been married for 10 years and have 2 children. I enjoy camping, boating, dirt bike riding, traveling, organizing, and shopping.

I graduated from California State University, Sacramento with my Bachelors of Arts in Social Work in 1992 and with my Masters of Social Work, along with my Pupil Personnel Service Credential in School Social Work in 1995. I came to Health Professions High School the Spring Semester of 2016. Prior to coming to Health Professions, I worked in SCUSD’s Child Development Department for 17 years as a school social worker.
My passion is learning with and from my students through real-world literacy practices. I strive to cultivate a positive, safe learning environment for students so they will want to take risks to grow and learn in new ways. My teaching is student-centered and I want students to feel seen, heard, engaged, and loved.
Hello! My name is Lisam Moua and I am a College and Career Counselor here at HPHS. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Ethnic Studies from CSU Hayward(East Bay) and my Pupil Personnel Services Credential/Master of Arts in Education: Counseling and Student Personnel, from San Jose State University. I am inspired to provide guidance and support to all students to be fully engaged, prepared, and ready toward their chosen path(s) upon graduation. Go Jaguars!!
I teach Senior Medical English and Senior Government/Economics, and I’m thrilled to be starting another year at HPHS!
I am passionate about Health and Healthcare as a Social Justice issue, and my students can expect to address questions of equity and access on a regular basis. All of my classes have a strong focus on communication, both written and oral, and each grade level will complete at least one civic action project over the course of the year.
My name is Dr. Iyuanna Pease and I am honored to be the Principal of AAB HPHS.
I have been an educator for approximately 11 years. I earned BA in sociology from CSUS, masters in Ed counseling and recently earned my doctorate of education. My experience is diverse having worked in primarily small high school settings. However, I’ve also been an Elementary counselor, Student Support Specialist for homeless and foster youth and an administrator at various sites.
Hola, my name is Herson Pérez. I have been teaching Spanish for ten years at Health Professions High School. This year I’ll be teaching levels 1, 2, and Medical Spanish. I received a Masters degree in Spanish from California State University Sacramento. I enjoy reading and exercising. My favorite writers are Gabriel García Márquez and Mario Vargas Llosa. My favorite musical is, of course, Hamilton. My favorite food is almond butter and my favorite book is One Hundred Years of Solitude. Viva HPHS!

I have a background in Tourism Management and have worked at NMSU as the Catering Manager, ran a lodging facility in Grand Canyon, AZ and a Bed and Breakfast in Artesia, NM.
