My name is Derek Steffen. I was born and raised in Sacramento and attended Sonoma State University (07), where I received my B.A. in Political Science and minor in English. Afterwards, I earned my educational specialist credential from Sacramento State and have been an instructor in the Special Day Class setting since 2010. My wife and I have a 7-year-old son and an infant daughter, and when family and teaching duties allow, I like to watch movies, check up on the Giants, and cook, eat, and dream about pasta.
I graduated from California State University, Sacramento with my Bachelors of Arts in Social Work in 1992 and with my Masters of Social Work, along with my Pupil Personnel Service Credential in School Social Work in 1995. I came to Health Professions High School the Spring Semester of 2016. Prior to coming to Health Professions, I worked in SCUSD’s Child Development Department for 17 years as a school social worker.
